Rally/Obedience Competition

If you are currently in the Novice, Open or Utility monthly classes, please fill out the GOALS sheet. Save a copy for yourself and bring a copy to class.

Listed below is our upcoming class schedule. We also have a Calendar of all classes available.

Class dates are subject to change, please contact Debby for the latest information. Please take a few minutes to check out the directions on the Facility page to Dogwood before the first night of class and feel free to call for additional directions.

Due to the unpredictability in Houston weather, we reserve the right to cancel classes if there is dangerous weather in the area. Please call the Dogwood phone number, 713-849-9115 to check on class status.

Please review the prerequisites identified for a class before enrolling and read the course description for the PREREQUISITE class. If you believe your dog’s current training meets the skills taught in our Basic Obedience Class, you may request a private with a Dogwood instructor to assess proper placement in our classes. The private with a Dogwood instructor is $40 and is payable in advance to the instructor.
Assessments are ONLY available to place out of Basic Obedience. All other pre-req classes must be taken via the Dogwood classes.

Rally/Pre-Novice Obedience class will introduce students to various concepts and techniques which will teach and improve skills that will be used when starting to compete in Rally and Obedience competition. While attending class, students will learn to interpret rally signs and be made aware of requirements for showing in rally and obedience. In addition, students will begin to combine skills to create “stations” in rally”exercises” and in obedience.
Instruction will be centered on teaching all students to use game play and reinforcement to create a willing partner that is able execute skills in a confident, focused, and animated manner.

Classes cost $70 and are On-Going for one hour each week.

Novice Rally/Obedience class will help you polish the skills required to show in all levels of Rally and prepare you to show in Novice obedience. This class includes proofing for heeling and working on the various heeling maneuvers needed for Rally such as circle left, circle right, moving down, moving sit, figure-8, serpentines, pivots, etc. The class includes the skills for all Novice obedience exercises including Heeling, Figure-8, Stand for Example, Recall, fronts and finishes, etc. During class we will review ring procedure and once a month we will have rally courses and/or Beginning Novice courses to allow you to actually practice the skills and learn to read and understand the Rally signs. We also will introduce the foundations of the Open and Utility Exercises. Students should have access to jumps for training.

Classes cost $70 per month and are on-going for one hour each week.

Open/Utility Class will teach and perfect, Retrieves on flat as well as over high jump, Broad Jump and Off- Leash heeling as well as teach and perfect, Go-outs, Signals, directed jumping , Gloves and articles. In addition, we will Ring review ring procedure and proof all exercises as well as continue to keep the dog focused and driven. Students should have access to jumps for training.

Classes cost $70 per month and are on-going for one hour each week.
